It's embarrassing to admit how long I've spent looking online for single-purpose sound effect sites like Instant Rimshot... and it turns out that it is very difficult to Google for these things. My goal was to present the top 5 sites that exist... but instead you're getting the "top" four.
I've covered some of this before, but these sites aren't bad.
I'm silly stoked about this game. I was a huge fan of the original Fallout, and the reviews of Fallout 3 have been incredibly high. The gaming industry just continues it's meteoric rise. I think the industry will be pretty recession proof, as gaming is fun and relatively inexpensive.
YAY! STAYCATION WITH MY PLAYSTATION!
F3 is perfect proof of this. It doesn't have NEARLY the name recognition of Halo or GTA (the last Fallout game was released on PC TEN YEARS ago), yet it's still pulling down Halo 3 numbers.
Last week's launch of Bethesda Softworks' "After-the-Bomb" role-playing game Fallout 3 was, appropriately enough, explosive. The publisher took a victory lap today by announcing some early statistics for the game. Bethesda said that it shipped roughly 4.7 million copies of Fallout 3 around the world last week.
The father of the dinosaurs in JURASSIC PARK, of THE TERMINATOR, of PUMPKINHEAD, PREDATOR, the Monsters in MONSTER SQUAD, and of course ALIENS, has passed on.
Trent Reznor offers another free download: A 'Tour Sampler' featuring songs from bands performing on the upcoming Nine Inch Nails tour. Included are tracks from A Place To Bury Strangers, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Crystal Castles, Deerhunter, and Nine Inch Nails. Once again, 100% free, high quality MP3s, DRM-free.
This is awful. I've been a BIG creative fan for years. I still use an EMU 1212m from time to time. One of the main reasons I don't upgrade to Vista is driver support is still lacking for sound cards. This forum post is really disappointing if it's true. That Creative is blocking community driver development is frustrating, but that they might be purposely withholding full functionality from Vista users (something alluded to in Phil O'Shaughnessy's forum post, as apparently these technologies of their's DO work), is almost criminal.
Here's Phil's forum post:
Daniel_K:
We are aware that you have been assisting owners of our Creative sound cards for some time now, by providing unofficial driver packages for Vista that deliver more of the original functionality that was found in the equivalent XP packages for those sound cards. In principle we don't have a problem with you helping users in this way, so long as they understand that any driver packages you supply are not supported by Creative. Where we do have a problem is when technology and IP owned by Creative or other companies that Creative has licensed from, are made to run on other products for which they are not intended. We took action to remove your thread because, like you, Creative and its technology partners think it is only fair to be compensated for goods and services. The difference in this case is that we own the rights to the materials that you are distributing. By enabling our technology and IP to run on sound cards for which it was not originally offered or intended, you are in effect, stealing our goods. When you solicit donations for providing packages like this, you are profiting from something that you do not own. If we choose to develop and provide host-based processing features with certain sound cards and not others, that is a business decision that only we have the right to make.
Although you say you have discontinued your practice of distributing unauthorized software packages for Creative sound cards we have seen evidence of them elsewhere along with donation requests from you. We also note in a recent post of yours on these forums, that you appear to be contemplating the release of further packages. To be clear, we are asking you to respect our legal rights in this matter and cease all further unauthorized distribution of our technology and IP. In addition we request that you observe our forum rules and respect our right to enforce those rules. If you are in any doubt as to what we would consider unacceptable then please request clarification through one of our forum moderators before posting.

What's sad is it probably works just as well in Vista now as it did before... some audio guy someaudioguy store creative recording drivers software asshatery digg support angry bonehead voice over voice acting
Well Daniel_K's work mught be great, but I'm feeling snarky. Until Creative has released official Vista drivers (with FULL FUNCTIONALITY) for their sound cards, I'm leaving them off my store.
Paul McCartney has signed a $400 million deal, which will see the Beatles catalog make its way to iTunes. I would say "WOOT", but I'm not buying the Beatles catalog again. I'm not.
Really.
OK, maybe if it ends up on Amazon. I might drop for a few tracks...

The so-called "Mosquito" device emits high-frequency noise which is audible — and annoying — to young ears, but generally not heard by people over 20.
OK, so I've seen stories about these for a while. I would really hope that shop owners don't really buy this idea that only people under 20 can hear them. I'm almost 30 and these things drive me batty. Insta-headache.
Want to make your own Mosquito tone? Fire up Sound Forge (or any editor with a tone generator), and create a tone over 17KHz. I can hear up to 18KHz in my left ear, so I tend to push even higher. You can test yourself, just keep increasing the frequency until you can't hear it anymore. Then just edit the tone (I prefer a series of quick pulses to help differentiate from random noise), and there you have it. A ringtone guaranteed to give me a migraine!
It’s perfectly legal, but it will still seem to some listeners like the sound of someone making off with England’s crown jewels. Forty years and more after the Beatles changed rock music forever, their songs have truly arrived in the 21st century as part of the rap/hip-hop art form — with the express permission of their publishers. Although there are hundreds of covers of ”Yesterday,” “Something” and the rest, this approach of ”interpolation” — essentially rerecording a portion of a song — of the Beatles’ compositions represents new access to the most famous catalogue in the world. These developments may ultimately signal a fresh attitude toward Beatles masters appearing in everything from commercials to movies.
This has been reported all over teh intarwebs! Warner is making all of its music available as MP3 files for sale at Amazon's music store. I've never seriously used iTunes outside of some giftcards I've received, but it looks like I'll be checking out Amazon's Music store...
Crazy in a good way! David is asked to give them some voices, and boy does he deliver! It's been my pleasure to work with Dave in the past, and the man plays evil well ... maybe a little tooo well... hmmm...
Seriously though, Dave is a great voice actor, and has recently become a driving force in getting actors better compensation for their work in videogames.
GameZombie.tv presents a conversation with the David Anthony Pizzuto, a major voice actor who's performed in Pride and Glory, Blazing Angels 2, SWAT 4, Steel Horizon, 50 Cent: Bulletproof; Credits: Producer: Spencer Striker, VJ: Jessica Frasher, Editor: Gabe Goldstein
Well the pic is actually from a speech he gave at Harvard, but close enough right?
This is an interesting video to watch in light of the recent announcement that FOX will be signing off on episodes of Family Guy without MacFarlane's approval as show runner. He's been withholding his show runner duties along with his writing duties, which I can't say I'm in favor of. In the video he mentions studios firing assistants and staff, but that was in direct response to writer/producer/show runners striking on all fronts, not just on their writing duties. Variety has a great write up of THAT situation over HERE.
Anywho, I caught this vid on Digg, so here's the original posting (spelling corrected):
Earlier this month the creator of "Family Guy" and active WGA member Seth MacFarlane gave an impassioned speech at Fox Plaza in Century City in front of 4,000 fellow striking writers guild members in witch he lambasted Fox and other Hollywood studios for not paying the creators of profitable content what they are due.
Sometimes, when a musician is away from his or her craft for a while and returns, everything falls back into place. Sometimes, though, the song they release makes you want to go back in time and kill their parents, as we've seen with Britney Spears' attempt at a comeback, "Gimme More." These songs are further examples of the latter...
Hot on the heels of the EMI story I JUST posted on, comes this gem just BURNING up Digg (about 4500 so far):
No doubt as a reaction to all the bad press he's been giving record labels, Universal/Interscope has relieved Trent Reznor of his contractual duties. As of today, Nine Inch Nails is working without a useless money-grubbing middleman and going straight to the fans. The revolution continues...
Ok I'm not a huge Beatles fan. Huge appreciation for their work, but seriously the only albums I enjoy are Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper. I had never heard of this though...
"A Toot and a Snore in '74 is a rare bootleg album of the final recording session in which John Lennon and Paul McCartney played together, which gained wider prominence when McCartney made reference to the session in a 1997 interview. This is the only known post-Beatles recording of Lennon and McCartney, it has become something of a collector’s item..."
