My First Photography Contest - I Could Use Your Help - UPDATED!

I'm in a photo contest, and I need a little help!

I'm super excited because my photography has always been very personal, one of my zen hobbies, and this is the first time I've ever put it into a public competition.

The theme was "What's on your plate?", and I took pics of food I actually ate that day. It'll be decided by a popular vote, so I need you to help me out with a few clicks.

I'm really happy with the way these came out, so I hope you enjoy them.

***UPDATE 06/01/2012***

So I didn't win. Stupid popular vote contests...
Anywho, I really do appreciate all the support from you guys, and as a thank you, I'd like you to have the high-res files of the pics from my gallery. You never know when you'll need a poster-sized macro pic of chile pepper right? Hope you enjoy, and if you do anything with these shots, please let me know!

Random Comment Giveaway - Tongue Twisters

It's interesting working in a technical art. I find we often share a number of hobbies and side projects in other tech arts. One of my side passions for away from studio fun is photography.

After CES I met a rep working for Golla Bags, a funky tech fashion outlet making bags and sleeves for tablets and smartphones with a fun Finnish flair. They gave me a camera strap for my DSLR, and I kinda love it, especially since I hate being a brand whore (and after the price I paid for this camera, if Canon wants me to be a walking billboard for them, then we need to talk about residuals).

I liked it so much, I grabbed a second one, and I'm giving it away!

Drop a comment on this post with your favorite tongue twister, and I'll choose a winner randomly on Saturday.
I'll only be able to ship this within the United States, but I'll try and get something international for my next give away!

Happy Friday!

Thank You RecordingHacks! I Won a Ribbon Mic!!!

Matt McGlynn over at RecordingHacks.com shares my fetish for microphones, and has created one of the most comprehensive databases of microphone info on the internet.

He's giving away a microphone a month for all of 2011, and I was the first winner!

Coming soon, to an AudioGuy near you, is the Cascade Fathead II Ribbon Microphone (with optional Lundahl transformer) and a Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator (to give that ribbon a little phantom power boost).

I'm disgustingly excited, as I've had very little opportunity to mess around with ribbons over the course of my career, so I'm stoked to share my experiences with you guys!

Matt has already posted details for his February giveaway, and it looks to be a MONSTER of a multi pattern LDC, the Lewitt LCT-640! I'll politely sit this one out so the rest of you can have a shot at winning...

Make sure you check out RecordingHacks for mic info, and you can also follow Matt on Twitter as @RecordingHacks!

They arrived!

I can't wait to break them in!

CONTEST! Melissa Disney and Jeff Bartsch Want You To "Vote For The Cat", Go To The Superbowl!

It's just cool being able to say I'm pals with these peeps.

Jeff Bartsch is a producer you might not be as aware of yet, but you've certainly heard his voice on shows like Super Nanny. His award winning production company Resolve (13 Months of Sunshine , Stained ) has produced a commercial for the Doritos Superbowl Challenge, featuring the prolific voice actress Melissa Disney, and they are one of the finalists!

They NEED your help!

At the time of this posting there are 16 days left in the contest for people to go and vote on which commercials they like the best (you like "The Chase" the best BTW). The winner will be featured during the Superbowl!
You can vote multiple times, and every time you vote you will be entered into a contest to win two tickets to go to the Superbowl!

Jeff has all the details posted over at a site he's set up for the contest VoteForTheCat.com, and you can watch the spot (called "The Chase") over at Crash The Superbowl.

Here's the spot:

Go help them get to the Superbowl, and maybe YOU can go too!

21 Days Left to Sign up for The MTV Engine Engine Room Casting Call - Win Cool HP Gear!

Just got an email from an executive working for MTV in the UK, alerting me to their new "Engine Room" reality show competition.

From Steve in the UK:

Hi there,
I work for MTV in the UK. We're currently recruiting for a new show that will be filmed in New York this summer.
We want talented young sound designers to join us in the Engine Room, a creative space where four teams (Europe, the US, Asia and Latin America) compete for a chance to win a top prize of $400,000US Dollars in cash plus HP gear.
The show films in New York starting 17th of July, and lasts for four weeks. Although it's a reality show, it's also a great chance for new talent to stand out from the crowd - and $400,000 is a decent kick start to any career!
We thought this would be something your readers might be interested in and wanted to ask you to feature it on your blog.
Full details are available at the website -
www.mtvengineroom.com - please let us know if you feature it and don't hesitate to get in touch if you want any more info.

Thanks loads,

Steve

You're welcome Steve. I just checked out the site, and it looks pretty intense. The prize list is awesome.

I wonder if there's room for a sound designer in the competition...

Anywho, for more info you can check out the sign up page, or SuChin Pak's Engine Room Blog.

Enjoy!

Help out RecordingReview, maybe win cool gear?

Brandon Drury has been hit with some major site costs. Apparently RecordingReview has crashed a server, and his new maintenance costs have jumped from about $10 a month to about $200 a month. RecordingReview is a great resource for us home recording closet booth junkies out there, and it would be a real shame if the site goes down.

Brandon's considering a raffle to try and raise some cash to keep the site up and running, and I think it's a great idea. He's wanting feed back on what prizes to put up, gift certificates to Musician's Friends, microphones, recording gear, cash, what have you.

He can definitely count me in for some tickets.

Please check out this forum thread, where he's planning what to do. Leave him some feedback, and help out a great site!

Vote for the New Voice of the NBC Nightly News

...but not really.

Were you not entirely thrilled by the announcement that Michael Douglas was going to be the new voice of the NBC Nightly News?

Well neither was voice actor Peter O'Connell. He runs the AudiO'Connell blog, and he's holding a casting call. Submission time is already up, but you can still vote on which voice you like (I'm voting for Kara Edwards cuz she's awesome).

The winner gets ... nothing ... far as I can tell (this being TOTALLY unofficial), but bragging rights are bragging rights, so go check it out. There are some classic voices up to listen to.

Listen to the nominees.

Vote on your fave.

the Clown, or any other Simpsons character, we want to hear it!

Best Homer Simpson Impression

Best Marge Simpson Impression

Best Bart Simpson Impression

Best Lisa Simpson Impression

Best Krusty the Clown Impression
