Just a silly fun bad videogame voice over to wrap the week up.
I often think to myself "Self, what would Dracula sound like if he were a pirate"?
Good thing we have 'Castlevania: Symphony of the Night' to answer that question!
Enjoy!

Voice Acting in Video Games is Becoming MORE Important, Not Less - Zero Punctuation Edition

The rapid fire speech, silly cut out animation, and the often brutal opinions, make him a refreshing change of pace from other reviewers who tend to work for outlets which are supported by video game advertising dollars.
Heaven forbid we get an honest opinion out of someone in this information age, right?
The accent doesn't hurt either...
We all know this has been a big deal for me. Performance capture will become more and more important as we cross through this uncanny valley that we're in right now, and quality performance has been championed by others as well, like Adam Sessler.
This review doesn't hinge on voice acting. But in a game as HUGE as Oblivion (estimated to have HUNDREDS of hours of game play), keeping the player engaged is crucial. Having a limited number of performers, with poor writing, and poorly directed performance, makes this immersion SO much harder.
Gamers ARE paying attention to this, and Yahtzee nails it!
Here's his review. It's funny (savage and savvy), and I agree wholeheartedly.
Portions (as always with Yahtzee) might be inappropriate for younger viewers or NSFW.

Zombie '90 - Dubbing so bad it's good?

I got all inspired by a story on zombie origins written up over at IO9, that I felt like watching a zombie movie. I've had a copy of German film Zombie '90: Extreme Pestilence, largely known as one of the worst movies ever made zombie or otherwise, kicking around for a while, so I figured now was as good a time as any other.
It's bad. Really bad. It's literally two guys driving around killing zombies, and zombies eating humans. That's about it. English speaking audiences get a rare treat though. The English dub is SO AWFUL it's actually really funny. The casting is bad (big ole black dude voice for skinny white German scientist, WTF?), the recording is bad (mic pops, breathing and mouth noises, no effort to blend sounds, I think it's in mono now that I think about it), and at some point they just give up and let the voice actors come up with witty lines REGARDLESS IF ANY CHARACTERS ON SCREEN ARE SPEAKING!
Across the board this movie is so horrendous ... you might actually enjoy it, if you're into that Mystery Science Theater 3000 kinda thing...
I found a clip on Youtube. Check it out:

Collection of Bad Voice Acting in Video Games, WITH SAMPLES!
Ok,
If you've read through this blog, you should know I have a near fetish level obsession with session outtakes/celeb flipouts and bad videogame voice acting. To be fair, I enjoy the former and hate the latter, but an obsession is an obsession.
Well, apparently someone else shares my obsession with bad videogame writing/voice acting.

Currently their index has a collection of 54 games, and each has several samples to boot. Some of this is just "bad", but there are a few gems that are "all-that-is-farggin-holy-awful". I wont tell you which, hunting is half the fun.
