News Sound Bites - Revision3, Engineering, Earthquakes in LA, Audiobooks, and More...

Hey All,
Just some fun links for you to check out.

The LA Times has a great look at up and coming media giant Revision3. I'm a HUGE fan of the "network", even if I did just recently pick a fight with Tekzilla.

AUDIOTUTS has a great tutorial on processing vocals for musicians. Totally worth a read for you VO folks as well, especially if you ever have to engineer or produce your own content.

So I was REALLY close to the earthquake that hit CA yesterday, and it was quite a jolt. To hear a special report from Loony Tunes News (courtesy of Bob Bergen) CLICK HERE.

Wired's Listening post has a really funny (and frustrating) article about how Hell Is Other People's Music.

Sound on Sound is reporting on an update to Reaper, a great little audio suite that I would put up with programs like Audacity and Traverso.

Not Just Voiceover has a great vid up of a narration session with audiobook virtuoso Scott Brick. It's so much fun watching you guys work...

Part Three of Bob Souer's interview with Voice Over Xtra has just been posted, so head over and check it out. Here are parts one and two if you're a little behind.

The Daily Show Takes on Audiobook Narration!

Geez! Where's Scott Brick when you need him?!?!

The thing about DVR's is I tend to collect Daily Shows for weekend viewing, and I almost missed this segment, so pardon as I'm a little late to this party.

John Stewart skewers Scott McLellan's reading his own book What Happened: Inside The Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception.

I think it's great that McLellan was brave enough to narrate his own book, but lets just say that it was a good thing Stewart had some help from Fred Schneider of the B-52's.

Check it out:

Fred's kinda awesome...

News Sound Bites - Mostly VO Stuff Today...

Scott Brick is giving you an audiobook free sample! Click to hear the first chapter of Lord Foul's Bane by Stephan R. Donaldson! Scott's the man! I would listen to him narrate paint drying!

io9.com is quickly becoming one of my favorite places on the web to hang out. They're feeding my sound design obsession with this awesome mega-post of the most iconic sound effects in scifi history!

In other audiobook news, Voiceregistry has a two part interview with Alfred Molina, on his work in audiobooks, VO, and narration! Part 1 Part 2

Will text to speech software replace voice over actors? Join the discussion at VOX Daily!

I'm SO STOKED for Iron Man, it's kinda silly. Robert Downey Jr is the PERFECT pick for Tony Stark. Gaming Today has a great behind the scenes video on the making of the Iron Man video game staring Downey.
Check it out below!

Scott Brick starts his own blog

Hey all,
Just caught this over at Bob Souer's blog, so I'm posting it on my blog, so we can all go read Scott's blog, and blog about blogging ... blog ...

Smurfing hell...

Seriously though, Scott starts his blog off with a great story on trying to track down Flemish swearing pronunciations. Awesome!

Audiobook narration can be an overlooked avenue in the wide word of VO, and I'm sure Scott's insights will prove invaluable to this community.

Check it out here!

Interview with Scott Brick: Audiobook Narrator

Kind of a fluff piece out of St. Louis Today, but a fun little read if you're at all curious about Audiobook production or narration. I've met Scott, and he's a really nice guy, and has the perfect voice to have a story read to you. I'd highly recommend any of the books he's read.
"Scott Brick and I met on my way to work one morning. I slid the first CD of "Mystic River" by Dennis Lehane into my player, and Brick started telling me the story. His voice accompanied me all week, reading the book with a style that
enhanced both the author's words and my listening experience.

With nearly 350 books narrated, 39 Earphones Awards and an Audie Award from Audio Publishers Association for "Dune: The Butlerian Jihad," Brick is a sought-after reader for a wide range of popular authors, including Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, Nelson DeMille and Orson Scott Card. His characterizations and gift for dialects give him access to a wide range of literature. This year he was named Narrator of the Year by Publishers Weekly magazine.

Brick, 41, lives in Los Angeles. We chatted about his job by e-mail.

Q: Did your mom read to you when you were a boy? What does she think of your career?
