Portal 2 Voice CASTING! Character Spoilers! AWESOME!

Damn you Kotaku!

This is a hella tasty scoop...

A reader there sent in info from Breakdown Express (an on line casting/breakdown service for actors) on auditions coming up for Portal 2!

Click on this image below for more details:

Hmmm...

Becomes the primary antagonist, eh?

Does this mean there's no GLaDOS? Does she become an ally?

The mind REELS!

Thanks for letting me rip this off Kotaku! Though you really didn't have any say in the matter!

Warburton talks to Kotaku - has funny voice - is big guy

Reading through Kotaku's interview with Patrick "Puddy-The-Tick-Brock-Sampson" Warburton, I just can't shake his voice. It's just plain funny.

Anywho, if you haven't figured it out, Warburton is a pretty accomplished voice actor, and while the interview is pretty interesting, I found this bit to be the most telling:
"Videogames are fun to do," said Warburton. "I don't really see how you could make a living off of it. These games can make jillions of dollars, but the piece of the action that actors get is really miniscule compared to what these things do. But any paycheck is better than a kick in the pants. It's fun to work on them and be part of them."
This guy is most certainly making bigger deals than scale, and even HE thinks video game voice actors are underpaid. It really is time for videogames to start paying out residuals.

P.S.
Jerry: So, Puddy, this is a pretty good move for you, huh? No more "grease monkey".
David Puddy: I don't much care for that term.
Jerry: Oh. Sorry, I didn't know...
David Puddy: No, I don't know too many monkeys who could take apart a fuel injector.
Jerry: I saw one once that could do sign language.
David Puddy: Yeah, I saw that one. Uh... Koko.
Jerry: Yeah, Koko.
David Puddy: Right, Koko. That chimp's alright. High-five.
HIGH-FIVE!

Library of Congress to start archiving video games

Heck yeah!
Take THAT Roger Ebert.

Kotaku has an impressive write up of the whole affair.

But today we have a different story for you with a very different
ending. The fact of the matter is, according to The Library of
Congress, video games are just as important to our historical past as
literature, movies and music. And at the moment, the LoC is teaming up
with major universities across the country to begin a 2-year initiative
with the sole intent of figuring out just how institutions can preserve
video games for years to come, while making the content accessible for
use and study.

Heck Yeah!

This is perfeck. Evolving from the days of Atari, gaming has consistently proved a culturally motivating force. It will be where our experimental media comes from, experimental storytelling, experimental anything. To deny the impact of gaming is shortsighted, and well, silly...

Read the story up at Kotaku, it's pretty great...

Heck Yeah!

Finally Some Video Game VO Respect?

Kotaku has a pretty good article up about the voices in God of War II. This is actually neat, as I rarely hear anything about voice acting in games (except whether or not it was good), let alone WHO was actually IN the game (unless it's an A-Lister).

The frustrations can run pretty high for those of us trying to raise a little visibility. After a client of ours booked the voice of Captain America for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, I played the game all the way through only to find the actors credited dead last (after "Special Thanks" and the "List of Babies Born During Production").

Kotaku:

Me:
Kinda Crappy: No Love for Game VO!
