Bass Guitar Update - Probably the Last Update Here...

So yeah, I practiced for an hour yesterday, and sadly the first TWENTY minutes were spent just tuning the damn thing LOL. My right hand is killing me just from walking the strings.

This might take a while.

Just to keep you guys from having to suffer through my general "suckitude", I'm going to move my updates over to my Twitter feed. I've been trying to figure out what to do with that thing anyway LOL.

I'm a "Do Follow" Blogger! Your Comments are Now Google Visible!

Yup,
I'm a "Do Follow" guy now.

Back in the day to prevent spamming, Google initiated tags to prevent links in comments to be crawled. This didn't stop spammers, but it did neuter commenters providing additional value to blogs by linking relevant content.

It took a little html learning, but I've fixed that here.

Some Audio Guy blog updates! My feed is burning!

YAY!
New banner pic!
And it's one I took!

Hey all, just wanted to point out the new RSS subscription links on the sides of the blog.
I finally got around to signing up for Feedburner, so hopefully my blog will be a little easier to subscribe to.

There are two main ways to subscribe.
If you use an RSS reader (like Google Reader which I use and love), then click on the subscription button:

Subscribe in a reader

You can click above or on the link above my profile.

If you don't use a reader, then you can also subscribe via email, and posts will be sent to you auto-magic-ally! Handy!

Enter your email address:

Delivered by FeedBurner

And lastly there are now a series of links at the end of each post for services like Stumble, Digg, Facebook, and more. Help spread the voice over love!

As always, thanks so much for checking this blog out!
Questions, comments, requests are always appreciated!

New Video Player for Some Audio Guy!

Hey all!
Just a quick heads up on a few small changes to the blog.
I finally had the opportunity to check out my readership, and you guys have been really good to me. My numbers have doubled again over the last two months, and you guys are reading me on every continent with internet access. I'm looking forward to even more come 2008, as I'll be adding features, podcasts, contests, and hopefully some guest writers so you don't have to "hear" my voice all the time. ;-)

The first of these changes happened last night. I got rid of the audio player at the bottom, and replaced it with a Youtube video crawler. It's set to troll Youtube for videos related to audio, voice acting, and sound design. It also preloads related videos, so you should be able to hit play and watch several videos in a row.

Also, over the next several days, I'll be messing around with the advertising on the site, hopefully getting it to blend in a little better. Ads are sort of a necessary evil these days, but I'm trying to make sure they don't distract too much. I'm also trying to make the ads more specific, so if you do happen to look at them, they'll be for products and services you guys actually care about. No more writing about Mackie mixers and getting ads for Bob Mackie Barbie dolls!

If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to drop a comment or email me directly at:

Thanks, and have a great holiday season!

Audacity Updated to 1.3.4

Your favorite free audio editor is now a tenth of a tenth of a point better!

Just recently updated to 1.3.4, I'm seeing some nice improvements. Switches like solo and mute seem to work smarter (and you can no longer jam the program up by muting and solo-ing a track at the same time). You can now add meta-data to files other than MP3, and a few of the plugins have gotten decent updates (I can't remember if 1.3.3 had a "gverb" but it's a really decent reverb/room shaping plugin).

My only complaints are:
**You still can't record to the same track over multiple takes. Every time you stop recording and start again it opens a new audio track, so you can't ever go back to review and re-record without having to cut and paste a file back together.

**Also, I still hate the "Preview" feature. You only get 2 seconds to hear if you like a change, and that's SO not enough if you're doing a lot of editing. You end up just rendering the edit, listening, and rolling back the edit if you don't like it. The preview feature has always been a waste of time in Audacity.

**Lastly, there's still no decent marker. I know you can hit CRTL-M (or remap it to something else), but the way it forces you to name the marker, and the fact that the marker isn't a part of the audio file itself (it becomes a new "track" just for markers) makes for an awkward and cluttered work environment.

<----Click pic to see what I mean.

All in all, it's an awesome package that totally rivals (and in some ways surpasses) programs like Sound Forge XP (about $80), but it's totally free! CLICK HERE to download and see the full list of updates from 1.3.3!

Enjoy!

Not bad at all: Winamp 5.5

Hey all!
Not really new news, but I've been playing with Winamp 5.5, and it's kinda nice.

They've updated the skin support, the program loads a lot faster, and they've kept my favorite feature: the ability to put music on AND TAKE MUSIC BACK OFF my ipod.

If you've ever wanted to swap music with your iPod, or back up your ipod on another computer, Winamp is hands down the easiest way to do it.

The new Bento skin's transparency is nice and Vista-y too.

If you're into media players, I highly recommend checking Winamp out. It's an oldie, but a goodie!
