This is the song that never ends - Beatles Edition

Just like my post about Spacehog, when I get stuck on a song, I REALLY get stuck on it. Obsessive! I'm burning up my ipod on one track right now...

The song du jour is 'You've Got to Hide Your Love Away' from the Beatles movie 'HELP!', and I'm kind of loving it.
I think it's a musical high point of theirs, in terms of simplicity, and is easily, hands down, my favorite Beatles song.

I love that it's not as literal as "Yesterday'.
I love that it's disgustingly vulnerable.
I love that John Lennon pops his p's on "people".
I love that the recording is SUPER raw. It's hissy, and simple. Listen to the song on headphones with your eyes closed. It sounds like there's a guitar ten feet to your left, a tambourine ten feet to your right, John Lennon is about 5 feet in front of you, and at the end a ninja with a flute has snuck up behind you to finish the song off with a solo.

It's gorgeous.

It's kinda sad to think that a song as sweet as this could NEVER be made today...

The Beatles are coming to itunes! Who doesn't already own them on CD?

Paul McCartney has signed a $400 million deal, which will see the Beatles catalog make its way to iTunes. I would say "WOOT", but I'm not buying the Beatles catalog again.
I'm not.

Really.

OK, maybe if it ends up on Amazon. I might drop for a few tracks...

Sony to license Beatles for use in music, commercials, films

Not sure how I feel about this.

It’s perfectly legal, but it will still seem to some listeners like the sound of someone making off with England’s crown jewels.
Forty years and more after the Beatles changed rock music forever, their songs have truly arrived in the 21st century as part of the rap/hip-hop art form — with the express permission of their publishers. Although there are hundreds of covers of ”Yesterday,” “Something” and the rest, this approach of ”interpolation” — essentially rerecording a portion of a song — of the Beatles’ compositions represents new access to the most famous catalogue in the world. These developments may ultimately signal a fresh attitude toward Beatles masters appearing in everything from commercials to movies.

That's not true. I don't like this idea.

Rare Final Lennon and McCartney Recording Session (Bootleg MP3)

IS THIS SERIOUS!?!?!

Ok I'm not a huge Beatles fan. Huge appreciation for their work, but seriously the only albums I enjoy are Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper. I had never heard of this though...

"A Toot and a Snore in '74 is a rare bootleg album of the final recording session in which John Lennon and Paul McCartney played together, which gained wider prominence when McCartney made reference to the session in a 1997 interview. This is the only known post-Beatles recording of Lennon and McCartney, it has become something of a collector’s item..."
