Senator Ted Stevens Indicted! Maybe NOW the "Tubes" Can Stay Neutral?

Why So Serious?
I try not to get TO political here on this audio blog, but big surprise that Senator Ted Stevens, the former chairman of the Senate's Rules Committee, Appropriations Committee, Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Governmental Affairs, and Senate Ethics would be indicted (SEVEN COUNTS) in a Federal corruption probe.

Yes Mr. Hissy-Fit Mc'Bridge-to-NO-WHERE, the longest serving Republican in the Senate, is being taken down for failing to disclose gifts from private corporations valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I'll always remember him best for his staunch opposition to Net Neutrality, and for delivering us the popular meme about the internet not being a big truck but a series of tubes that movies can get stuck in.

I'm very happy about this. Aside from the obvious schadenfreude, this is a quiet yet big step for protecting communications technologies. I know his indictment alone doesn't radically change the landscape of the debate, but removing any opposition can only be a good thing in my opinion, especially a committee chairman.

America is already behind EVERY other industrialized nation on the planet [to be fair,Q1 2007 we did increase to 24th out of the top 25 countries in terms of broadband penetration barely edging out Australia, but still WAY behind countries like Hong Kong, South Korea, Iceland, and Monaco LINK, Ed.]. We need to maintain neutrality. We're already seeing ISP's toying with data caps, monitoring private traffic, and engaging in other fairly anti-consumer activities. Anyone who would have us commercially divide, or tier, the internet needs to be considered a grave threat to the future of America's telecommunications prowess (the future of our ability to communicate, our commerce, and our competition), and will be someone I will vote against in a heartbeat (McCain I'm looking in your general direction).

We invented the damn thing. We should be guiding it's future. We should be leading it.

More on Ted Steven's indictment.

The Daily Show Takes on Audiobook Narration!

Geez! Where's Scott Brick when you need him?!?!

The thing about DVR's is I tend to collect Daily Shows for weekend viewing, and I almost missed this segment, so pardon as I'm a little late to this party.

John Stewart skewers Scott McLellan's reading his own book What Happened: Inside The Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception.

I think it's great that McLellan was brave enough to narrate his own book, but lets just say that it was a good thing Stewart had some help from Fred Schneider of the B-52's.

Check it out:

Fred's kinda awesome...

Voice Over is Becoming the Family Business - Politics Edition

It's my Uncle Tony!
<-----

If you live in California's 71st Assembly District (Riverside and Orange County), you might (or already may have) receive a call from Tony Bedolla supporting Neil Blais for Assembly. Now Blais IS a Republican, but I wont hold that against Tony, LOL.

Take a listen:

Not bad at all! Professional, concise, clear, I wonder if I could get Tony into radio instead of stumping for a GOP Assemblyman. Hmmmm....

Oh wooops! My Liberal is showing!

Ahem...

POLITICS! American Rhetoric - Famous American Speeches in MP3

I'm feeling political, so why not combine that with the whole theme of this blog, you know, stuff you can hear...

Not much to say, but the site American Rhetoric has collected the top 100 speeches of American history, and linked to MP3's of the speeches along with written transcriptions. If you're a history/audio/political nerd like I am (what, maybe all 6 of you out there), then this is an awesome resource.

AMERICAN RHETORIC

Noticeably absent from the list is one current Commander in Chief. If you're upset about that, why not make up your own bush speech with sound bites, and see if you can create something that'll make the American Rhetoric list. He obviously can't...

Celebs give voice to the People - Free Show in Boston! Star Studded reading of 'A People's History of the United States'!

Are you going to be in Boston on January 8th or 9th?
Do you enjoy political history?
Do you ever wish a group of celebrities would read a book for you, so you don't have to use your own eyes like a sucker?

Then, boy do I have a show for you!

Celebrities will be reading A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn at the Cutler Majestic at Emerson College. The show will be recorded, and divided into four, one hour episodes. No network has picked up the show yet, but with the current political climate being what it is, and the list of talent is actually pretty cool. I'm sure there wont be any issues selling the show.

Tickets are free, and they need a live audience, so I would HIGHLY recommend checking it out.
From the Majestic website:

Big names, and the rest is history

At long last, Howard Zinn's influential 1980 book "A People's History of the United States" is being turned into a TV miniseries called "The People Speak," and it'll be shot here in Boston next month. The series will star several Hollywood heavies, including Matt Damon, Marisa Tomei, Viggo Mortensen, Danny Glover, Josh Brolin, and David Strathairn, as well as actresses Kerry Washington and Q'Orianka Kilcher, and singer Allison Moorer.

...

And how about this? The music will be performed by Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and perhaps Bruce Springsteen, who's a big fan of Zinn's book. "I think there's a good chance Bruce will do a song," said Zinn. "This is exciting."

I'm super jealous. I would totally get a kick out of this! Someone needs to go and let me know how it was!

Cutler Majestic's web site for more info and (free) tickets!

Write up from the Boston Herald!

Wow, worst blog post title EVAR!

Coaching your way to a softer sound?

Just a quick bit on the importance of good voice coaching. According to the Telegraph, Chancellor Gordon's voice has been coached and rendered smoother and more sincere.

Miss Goyder, who listened to radio interview clips of Mr Brown yesterday and after his 2004 Budget, likened his speech patterns to the silky, smooth Bill Clinton, thought by many to be the greatest political communicator of his generation.

What kills me is there is an AUDIO LINK! Go check it out! Tell me what you think of good ole Gordo's voice chops.
