A great little video from MusicLover over at 5min detailing the different sounds you get from moving a microphone in relation to a guitar amp. Distance and angle play a huge factor in the type of sound you're looking for:

T-Amp over at Think Geek

Think Geek has the scoop on the T-Amp, a tiny inexpensive amp, that apparently out classes amps that are many times more expensive.
Think Geek PreviewTo put it short and sweet... The T-Amp line of amplifiers from Sonic Impact are revered by audiophiles everywhere for their amazing sound and incredible price. These amps have better sound than others that cost 10 times as much.
The key to the T-Amp is - amazingly enough - Class T amplification. Class T amplifiers offer both the audio fidelity of Class AB (which you'd likely find in your home stereo reciever) and the power efficiency of Class D amplifiers (often used to provide the punch for subwoofer amps).

Sound Like Hendrix?
With a piece of software? Really?
Kinda reminds me of that old joke "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?"
With all of the mic and amp modeling packages out there, I guess I don't understand why anyone would pay almost $400 on a 1/4" to USB adapter and some amp modeling software.
"The combination of AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix(TM) and StealthPlug represents a huge step forward in guitar technology allowing, for the first time, every guitarist to easily plug into their computer and hear the classic sounds that inspired one of the most influential guitarists of all time, Jimi Hendrix."
Oh...
I guess that ... explains(?) it ...
