Your Favorite Mic?

Voices123 is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the world of Non-Union VO. They recently held a survey of users asking what their favorite mic is. I found it telling that the top two choices (Shure and Neumann) seem to bookend the mic spectrum. Shure make great affordable mics, and Neumann make great expensive mics.

Results say that the most popular microphone brand among voice over artist was Shure with a 15% of all answers and the second place was for Neumann with 12% of all answers. The following preferred brands were MXL, AKG, and Audio-Technica, all with 9%, followed by ElectroVoice with 6% and Sennheiser with 3% also. These were the most popular brands of the survey, however 33% of respondents use a different brand of microphone no in this list.

I personally have a few from each manufacturer (couple sm57's, a km184, some AT's, an Aries, some MXL Beaters), but oddly my favorite workhorse mic at the moment is an M-Audio Solaris. Inexpensive, good sound, low noise, beautiful design, multi-pattern, it tends to be the first thing I pick up when starting to record.

How bout ya'll? What mics light you up?
