I meant: "It might be useful for screencast tutorials." Of course, I might be useful for them, too!Scullynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5197485284151138961.post-32799735178880346412012-01-31T14:01:06.466-08:002012-01-31T14:01:06.466-08:00I might be useful for screencast tutorials, maybe ...I might be useful for screencast tutorials, maybe as a utility mic for an audio journal or "audio notebook." (I'm not a voiceover professional, nor do play one on TV.)Scullynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5197485284151138961.post-45905380229098959412012-01-31T13:12:58.609-08:002012-01-31T13:12:58.609-08:00I think that sounds like the best plan Scully!
Th...I think that sounds like the best plan Scully!

The thing about mics is, we have this somewhat unrealistic expectation that one mic can service all VO needs. Honestly, your experiences with the SM57 sound about par for the course. Sometimes it will be the right tool for the job, sometimes it wont be.
I'd recommend holding on to it. You never know when that little stalwart will come in handy.

That little mic has saved my butt a number of times...SomeAudioGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03628709063663146643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5197485284151138961.post-82678061662309160222012-01-31T12:56:59.102-08:002012-01-31T12:56:59.102-08:00Well, when you put it THAT way, it does sound sill...Well, when you put it THAT way, it does sound silly. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I can't believe I actually wrote that. Ha!

In any event, the last thing I need right now is a new recorder. If and when the need arises to replace my R-09HR, I will consider the H4n.

As for the SM57 I'm starting to think that dynamic mics are just not for me. I sold my RODE Procaster because, no matter what I did, that thing accentuated my nasal tendencies to such a degree that I couldn't stand to listen. I'm on the fence about the SM57; sometimes I hear it, and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I like the way it sounds, and sometimes I don't. I don't think I'm ever going to love it.

As for the dbx, I only use the preamp and the gate -- and the gate only with a condenser.

At this point, I think I need to focus on optimizing my room and my NT1-A.Scullynoreply@blogger.com
